VILNIUS - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in a meeting with his Lithuanian counterpart has urged the two countries not to be "held hostage" by history ni their relations.
"We share the wish not to hold our relations hostage to past history and events, for which neither we nor the Lithuanian leaders bear responsibility,” Lavrov said at a press conference after meeting with Audronius Azubalis in Moscow.
"Historians have to look at history in full, including the period before the Word War II. I won’t go deep into details; historians know how difficult it is. But without going this way historic secrets won’t be revealed in full. Therefore, we have agreed that differences in our historic evaluations, let’s not hide this, should remain the object of work of the historians’ commission,” Lavrov said.
