VILINIUS - The Lithuanian Supreme Court has ruled as illegal the 2009 trolley bus strike in Kaunas that struck the city at the onset of the financial crisis.

Drivers went on strike after approximately 80 people were laid off and the rest were asked to take a 15% pay cut. Their pay at the time was around 2,600 litas per month, alfa.lt online news portal reported.

"The company always sought a constructive dialogue with the trade union and it is regrettable that the union politicized the action, undermining both the company and trolley drivers themselves," the court said.
