RIGA - Officers from the Latvian Corruption Prevention Bureau (KNAB) have detained a top Finance Ministry official who was caught offering a bribe to the state revenue service.
Though KNAB has refused to reveal the identity of the suspect, national news agency LETA reported that officers have carried out a search at Vladimirs Vaskevics' office in the Finance Ministry overnight and confiscated several documents and his computer.
He is accused of having offered a 50,000 Lat bribe to members of the the national tax authority in exchange for their looking the other way in some cases of tax evasion and other crimes.
