RIGA - The Latvian government has lifted the country's "state of emergency" over the tens of thousands of power outages that occured over the past months.

The government ended the state of emergency in approximately half of the affected regions on Jan 18, and the rest on Jan 25.

Appoximately 50,000 households were left without power after severe weather conditions at the end of last year downed power lines, with the Latgale region being the worst affected by the outages. Continuing weather turmoil made it difficult for workers to repair the damage and meant some households had to go without electricity for nearly a month.
