VILNIUS - Lithuanian president Dalia Grybauskaite has said that the country needs to accept a recent ruling by the European Court of Human Rights, which ruled that the impeachment of former president Rolandas Paksas was a violation of his human rights.
Paksas was impeached from the presidency and banned from ever running again after he was found guilty of illegally arranging Lithuanian citizenship for Russia-born businessman Yuri Borisov. The court said that banning him from future elections was a violation of his human rights.
Paksas, who currently works as a euro MP, hailed the victory, saying that he now plans to return to Lithuania to run for president in 2012.
