RIGA - Some 40,000 people around Latvia have been days without power as weather conditions continue to worsen.
Latvenergo representatives said power should be restored sometime this week. The company is hopefull that it will be able to restore power to everyone in the country by the time schools are due to reopen on Jan 6.
Heavy snowfall and freezing rain have caused trees and branches to fall on power lines, leading to the outages. Latgale has reportedly been hit hardest by the outages.
