TALLINN - Estonian police have said they expect an increase in money counterfeiting when the country officially adopts the euro as of Jan. 1 next year.
"The euro offers new opportunities for crime that have not existed until now. The currency is unfamiliar in a local context and one of the most real dangers is counterfeiting," said criminal investigation bureau director Lenno Reimand in an ETV interview.
An increase in counterfeiting attempts has been a regular occurance for countries that adopt the euro.
