Police identify "hit-and-run" officer

LUDZA - Police in the Eastern Latvian town of Ludza say they have identified the officer involved in the hit-and-run of a cyclist using a police vehicle.

The cycalist was later taken to the hospital, where he has been in a coma since the incident.

The unnamed officer, 28, earlier this week ran down a cyclist with a police vehicle and fled the scene. The officer is an inspector with the Ludza police department. The police vehicle was later found in town without its driver.
