Pehk to be tried for genocide

TALLINN - Former Soviet official Väino Peh, 82, is due to go on trial Nov. 3 on charges of genocide for his role in mass deportations to Siberia. 

He will stand trial in Tartu County Court for his alleged involvement in the Soviet deportation in March 1949. He stands accused of taking part in the deportation of more than 60 families.

Pehk was also one of the leaders of the initiatives to stamp out the "forest brothers", a guerilla force that fought against Soviet Occupation.
