VILNIUS - Lithuania's Social Democratic party has announced that it will start work on a vote of no-confidence in Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius.
The party had already announced that it would push vote no-confidence votes in the Minister of Environment Gediminas Kazlauskas and the Minister of Energy Arvydas Sekmokas.
Kubilius defended himself in an interview with online news portal Delfi, saying the motivation was likely next year's elections.
"I am not surprised. I don’t know what kind of motive is there behind such Social Democrats’ decisions: forthcoming elections or other things. I only understand that the vote of no confidence is in the process of preparation because Lithuania’s GDP growth in the second quarter is one of the biggest among the European Union countries, perhaps the second reason is that according to Transparency International Lithuania has made a huge progress fighting corruption," he said.
