VILNIUS - The Lithuanian Children's Rights Ombudsman, Edita Ziobiene, has resigned from her position following a series of high-profile scandals involving paedophilia.

“The resignation is a wake-up call for the state to realize that the crowd and changing political winds cannot pressure me,”  Ziobiene said at an Oct. 20 press conference.

“I will not bow to the crowd and politicians who have criticized me in the media," she said.
