VILNIUS - The Lithuanian government has announced that it will borrow some 2.28 billion Litas next year as the proposed budget goes to vote in parliament.

The total is about one third of what was borrowed on international markets this year, a sign of the country's efforts to reduce its deficit.

Government debt is expected to increase to more than 40% of GDP by the end of next year.
