RIGA - The Latvian government has approved an allocation of more than 26 million lats to the country's struggling health care sector.

The prime minister told reporters that the Health Ministry had previously made disproportionate cuts and now needed the extra funding.

The government hopes to raise about 80 percent of the funds through reduction in other budgetary payments.
