Estonia sees tourism spike

TALLINN - Estonia's national statistics agency has recorded a sharp spike in tourism in the first half of 2010, welcome news as the country battles its way out of the economic crisis and prepares to join the eurozone.

According to Statistic Estonia, in fact, the first half of the year saw 77,000 more foreign tourists and 16,000 more domestic tourists using accommodation in the country than in the same period of the past year.

From January until June a total of 1,021,000 tourists used accommodation establishment: 35.8 percent of them were Estonian people while 64.2 percent were foreigners visiting the country.
