Riga offers cash prize for beaver solution

RIGA - The Riga city government has announced that it is offering a cash prize to whoever can offer the best way to stop beavers from destroying trees and shrubs along the canals that run through the capital city.

"We are waiting for effective solutions to protect trees and bushes, but which at the same time would show a humane attitude toward the beavers," the head of Riga's city environment department Vjaceslavs Stepanenko was quoted by AFP as saying.

the local parks and gardens department is offering 300 lats to the person who can find a way to stop the beavers without causing them harm.
