Court of Justice candidate approved

Lithuania’s Seimas has approved the candidature of one of the authors of the constitution, the signatory of the Act of Independence, Associate Professor Egidijus Jarasiunas, for the judge of the European Union’s Court of Justice. On Friday, 68 MPs supported the candidate, 2 MPs voted against and 8 MPs abstained from voting. This protocol ruling with parliamentary opinion will be forwarded to the government.
 
The new candidate will replace Pranas Kuris, who was appointed to serve as judge for six years, but stepped down after four years. The new judge of the European Union’s Court of Justice will be appointed for the remaining office of two years as of Oct. 7, reports ELTA.
