VILNIUS - The Lithuanian minister of culture has formally resigned from his post after months of criticism.

Remigijus Vilkaitis will most likely be replaced by Arunas Gelunas, who was informally approved by the president last week. The president will need to formally approve Gelunas before he can begin work.

"Vilkaitis tendered his resignation statement. I told him thanks, that appreciate him as a person and as culture worker," Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius told journalists.
