BEREC to be based in Riga

RIGA - Latvia is set to host its first EU institution after BEREC, the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications, decided to base its main office in Riga.

The location of the Office of BEREC  in Riga not only provides specific opportunities to build the capacity of the electronic communications sector, but also to enhance the quality of Latvia's EU membership by bringing EU institutions closer to Latvia's residents through travel and stay in Latvia of the EU Member State experts and officials form the EU institutions. 

The Office of BEREC will be responsible for the harmonization of the EU internal market in the field of electronic communications, as well as considerably support the implementation of the EU's digital program thus providing new jobs for the Europeans and promoting Europe's global competitiveness in the area of information and communication technologies, including the accessibility, quality and lower rates for the broadband internet and mobile communications.
