RIGA - For the first time since joining the Schengen zone, Latvia has reintroduced border controls at checkpoints along all land borders, the port and the airport.

The temporary border controls have been set up in response to security concerns surrounding the NATO parliamentary assembly in Riga, which begins Friday.

Border checks will be conducted in the same manner they were before Latvia signed the Schengen border-free treaty.
