JURMALA - Romualds Razuks, a member of the newly formed "Civic Union" party, has been elected as the new mayor of the Latvian seaside resort town of Jurmala.

Razuks will replace Raimonds Munkevics, who was sacked from his position earlier this week following a bribery scandal.

Razuks (born 1955) is Lithuanian by birth, a physician by education and profession. In his political career, he has been both a Riga city councilman and a Saeima deputy.
