PLAYING IT COOL: WestBam is all suited up and ready to start spinning the vinyl.

RIGA - Since the summer is no longer that far off, Riga will hold the first open air event this year. All electronic music fans are invited to celebrate the warmth, together with the house music guru WestBam!
WestBam, whose real name is Maximilian Lenz (born March 4, 1965 in Munster, Westphalia, Germany), is not only Germany’s most successful and most popular DJ and avantgardist of the Raving Society, he is also the most innovative producer and co-founder of Berlin’s Indie Dance label, Low Spirit.

The origin of his moniker is an homage to Afrika Bambaataa, thus “Westphalia Bambaataa.” He started his career as a DJ in 1983 in his birth city, Munster. In 1984, he moved to Berlin where he released his first record, called “17 - This Is Not a Boris Becker Song,” which was co-produced by Klaus Jankuhn. He played at the first Love Parade rave party in 1989 in Ku’damm Berlin. Around that time, the DJ culture made a breakthrough in Germany. After several records he released his first album named, “The Cabinet.” In 1991, he organized the first Mayday rave in Berlin. With over 5,000 people, it was the biggest techno party in Germany at the time. Since then, Mayday has been a linchpin in the German techno scene. WestBam is still an organizer of the party, and he is also a part of Members of Mayday, the producer of the Mayday-Anthems.

In 1997 the WestBam project Members of Mayday gave this sound to its first number one in Germany, which also became one of the starting points into the post rave electro clash era.
WestBam has played in over fifty countries and done more than ten albums and countless singles and remixes, leaving one of the most complex works in the world of DJ music and one of the longest.
The Latvian public has known WestBam since 1987, from the Art Days events. You can easily say that thanks to WestBam, the electronic music culture, more precisely the house style, has developed in Latvia. This genre gained great popularity in Latvia.

This year, concert “warm-up” and “after hours” will be held by a special DJ ensemble, with ever energetic and attractive house music grandee, DJ and producer Andre Crash (Tasty Soundz / Latex Records) among them. For his contribution to the Latvian electronic music field, Andre Crash was rewarded, winning first place in the Top DJ competition. Within the warm-up part, visitors will hear the DJ [Ex] da Bass (Illegal DJ Team Riga / EHR Party Service / Foam Kingdom) performance. [Ex] da Bass, to the Latvian public, has been known for a very long time. This popular artist reached, in 2009 with his single “Riga Nights,” the top of Latvian dance music charts and won the hearts of listeners outside of Latvia as well.

The event will also feature the performance by talented DJ Deros, who represents the label “Tasty Soundz” and resides in Essential club, where all fans of night life can enjoy his exciting set of progressive house and tech house sounds. The concert will be concluded with the performance by the new and promising beautiful gender representative DJ Anitta Smith (Flyingmice) and her vigorous tech house sounds.

Organizers of the show have everything taken care of, so visitors should not be bored for a single moment. Special guest artists this year will be Latvian hip hop star Gacho, who gained popularity and overwhelmingly positive feedback from his listeners. Also, within this first open-air event, the factory’s courtyard will host a special “Ghetto Basket” tournament, fashion shows and other surprises. For urban culture admirers there will be a separate stage with a DJ and MC genre. Visitors will be delighted by popular local artists: R-Everything, DJ Get Dizzy and many others.

Afterwards there will be WestBam taking the stage for his two-hour long show. Without exaggeration, WestBam has had a decisive influence on the techno house cultural movement and his creative impulse is still very much alive and kicking. WestBam is by no means a dedicated follower of fashion, but is a genuinely creative trendsetter.
The event will be held on May 28 at Riga’s Dream Factory. So don’t miss out, and get your tickets on time!
