Unity announces lineup

RIGA - The Unity political party has confirmed who its leaders will be in running on the alliance’s ticket in the next parliamentary elections, announced Unity public relations specialist Gunda Reire, reports news agency LETA. The ticket’s leaders will be Girts Valdis Kristovskis (Civic Union), Solvita Aboltina (New Era), Valdis Dombrovskis (New Era), Aleksejs Loskutovs (Society for Different Politics) and Sarmite Elerte.

Former European Parliament member and current Riga City Councilman Kristovskis will be first on Unity’s ticket in the Riga voting precinct. Former European Parliament member and current Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis will head Unity’s ticket in the Vidzeme Province (northeastern Latvia) voting precinct.
Former justice minister and current Saeima Deputy Solvita Aboltina will be top on Unity’s ticket in the Kurzeme Province (western Latvia) voting precinct. Former Corruption Prevention Bureau chief Aleksejs Loskutovs will be Unity’s top candidate in the Latgale Province (eastern Latvia) voting precinct.

The former editor-in-chief of the newspaper Diena and the current chairwoman of the ‘The Meierovics Society for Progressive Reform,’ Sarmite Elerte, will head Unity’s ticket in the Zemgale Province (south-central Latvia) voting precinct.
The Unity political alliance was founded on March 6 by New Era, Civic Union and the Society for Different Politics. The task of the alliance, as declared by its founders, is to begin a consolidation of Latvian political and social forces, based on common values and a unified organization. The aim of the alliance is to create a new political culture in Latvia - a platform for each Latvian citizen who strives for a prosperous, fair and European Latvia.
