ROME -- Latvian tennis star Ernests Gulbis looks set to move within the top 30 of the ATP world rankings after a strong showing in the Master's 1000 in Rome.

Gulbis won a series of matches in which he was the extreme underdog -- including beating world number 1 Roger Federer -- before losing to third seeded Rafael Nadal, who is widely seen as the top player on clay courts.

Gulbis' previous personal best in ATP rankings was 38th place, which he had attained in August 2008.
