VILNIUS -- Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite has dismissed two senior deputies from the Prosecutor General's office, Vytautas Barkauskas and Gintaras Jasaitis, in a bid to improve the institution's efficiency and reputation.
"Last year's events in General Prosecutor’s Office have revealed the shortfalls in its activities and is forcing us to take all means to improve it," the president said.
"The shifting of heads in General Prosecutor‘s Office and other judicial institutions will speed up the changes and will allow us to reconsider the priorities of prosecutors, the principles of work management, to find ways to reestablish society's confidence in the prosecutors’ offices," she said.
