Latvia has lowest gross wage in Baltics

RIGA (BNS) - Latvia had the lowest average gross monthly wage among the Baltic states in the second quarter of 2000, the Latvian Central Statistics Office said on Sept. 5.

According to the information provided by the office, from April to June 2000 the average gross monthly wage was $247.60 in Latvia, $264.57 in Lithuania and $300.20 in Estonia.

Quarter on quarter the average gross monthly wage in the Baltic countries increased in the second quarter. The growth was 5.6 percent in Latvia, 2.9 percent in Lithuania and 11.8 percent in Estonia.

Year on year the average gross monthly wage in the second quarter of 2000 grew by 5.9 percent in Latvia and 11.5 percent in Estonia. Data about year-on-year changes of the average gross monthly wage in Lithuania was not available. In July 2000 the minimum wage was $82.78 in Latvia, $107.5 in Lithuania and $85.01 in Estonia.
