VANCOUVER - Latvian bobsleigh prodigy Janis Minins has announced that he will not compete in the four man bobsleigh competition at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.

The athlete, who holds the current world record on the track and was a favorite for the gold, crashed numerous times during training runs on the track. Two of the team members were injured, and the team only had one alternate.

"The decision by Minins' team is courageous and responsible, and was taken in very difficult circumstances," Coach Sandis Prusis said.
