French nail design – the most elegant and versatile for ladies of any age.

Nobody doubts that foot care is very important. We should take care of our feet, not only during summer, but on a regular basis. And what happens if we don’t? As a result we can get deformation of the nails, skin diseases and many other disagreeable things, says pedicure expert at the Catherine Nail Collection salon in Riga, Tatyana Nordmane. The Baltic Times met her for consulation.

Tatyana tell us about pedicure methods?

The pedicure, as well as manicure, has several processes. There’s the traditional classical, hardware, and spa pedicure. Their basic difference is in preliminary procedures. Also, the ways of processing cuticula and feet differs. For example, French, Japanese and other pedicure is the method of nail design.

Which method of pedicure do you advise?

Let’s start with the more specified point of the methods of pedicure. The classical pedicure is the beginning of professional foot care. The preparatory stage includes a foot bath; it is desirable to make this with sea salt, or special structures for a pedicure, within 20 minutes. When your skin is quite wet, specialists clean the nail with a special tool. Then they raise the cuticula and gently, with scissors, cut it off.

The second stage includes engagement of the nails: cut them, file with a nail file and polish the nails. You should not cut off nails too short – they can grow into the skin and cause inflammation. Then carefully dry, and with massaging movement rub a little amount of softening cream into the soles and between the toes, giving particular attention to the  rough places. This will feed and freshen the skin, and improve blood circulation.

The hardware pedicure is a modern, pleasant and absolutely painless procedure of processing nails and foot skin. Thus, for the pedicure one uses only special Professional instruments, which promote improvement on the expert’s work. There are different sizes of grinding nozzles used, in various forms for processing the surface of the nail and skin. This technique helps to get rid of callouses, and thick nails. However, before removal it is recommended to see your doctor. This can be the consequence of a fungoid infection and, in this case, treatment will be prescribed by the doctor.

Spa pedicures are the last achievement in the area of foot work. This procedure is capable of presenting you a sea of pleasure. The spa pedicure begins with a special foot bath with a special powder. It helps to prepare for your pedicure, relax your feet and wake up your skin. After that you will receive a complex of procedures including peeling, alignment, massage of your feet, treatment of callouses. There is used an advanced cosmetic with natural components - thermal water, muds, seaweed, vegetable extracts, preparations with fruit acids. After this the specialist applies hydro-balm or refreshing gel to your feet and massages them.

Any pedicure is not only foot medical care, but also gives the possibility to have beautiful nails. Especially in the summer, our clients prefer gel nails with excellent designs.  Coloured gel nails have a variety of accessories. For example, such accessories like Swarovski ornaments are very popular. I think that the choice always remains for the client.

How often do you recommend a pedicure?

If you don’t have serious problems with your feet, then normally you can make it once a month. This will keep your feet in normal condition. Thus, the pedicure includes the removal of the damaged skin cells, foot massage and cuticula removal.  If the person has problems such as callouses, peeling skin between toes, the expert can work out a corresponding technique and make recommendations. Remember that it is very individual.

Tell me why the problems with the feet occur?

It depends on a variety of factors, in particular from the inwardness of the body as a whole. It’s not a secret that on our foot there is situated a set of biologically active points which are connected with all internal organs and systems of the person. Our feet are an indicator of our health. Problems can appear because of the way one walks, or from bad footwear. For example, callouses are a protective reaction of the skin. In the place where the callous sits is constant pressure and friction. A layer of skin gradually thickens.
Sometimes nails do not grow normally. Gel helps to grow new normal nails and restores the nail form.

What should we do for foot care at home, when we don’t attend a specialist?

I would recommend making a water bath with gel once a week. It is strongly recommended to use foot cream every day. My advice is to use high quality cosmetics. Our feet have more than 70,000 nerve points which are connected with organs and systems of the body. Therefore it’s very useful to walk as you therefore influence various parts of the foot. It’s very important to choose comfortable and quality footwear.  This influences comfort and circulation during walking, and your health as a whole.
