RIGA - The Latvian constitutional Court has ruled the government decision to freeze judges pay to be unconstitutional.

National news agency LETA reported that the court ruled that providing social guarentees to the judges was necessary to ensure that they remain independent.

The Court heard a total of 28 cases following Parliament's decision to freeze the pay of judges in the country, LETA reported.
