Appeal to Russia to end truck lines

RIGA - Latvian officials have given an appeal to the Russian ambassador to to something in order to help ease border restrictions and cut down on the lengthy wait for trucks trying to enter the country.

Russia has tightened its border operations following allegations of violations among Latvian truckers. LETA reported that in a note given to the Russian Embassy's economic advisor Yevgeniy Tihonov, the foreign ministry said problems with violations had been solved from the Latvian side and that it was now up to Russia to do its part to improve the flow of traffic.

Truck traffic at the Grebneva border crossing with Russia, one of only three major crossings between the two countries, has been brought to a standstill, the Latvian national news agency reported.
