JURMALA - Former Jurmala Mayor Girts Trencis has been found not guilty of misuse of power by a local court.

The former mayor had been accused of using his position of power to illegally come to a settlement agreement on a case involving the Jurmala Hospital. The anti-corruption bureau said the move cost the city more than 12,000 lats.

The prosecution had asked that Trencis be sentenced to 200 hours of community service and be banned from holding public office for two years, national news agency LETA reported.

The full verdict will be released on Dec. 10.
