China, Latvia optimistic about future

RIGA (LETA) – Latvian Minister of Defense Talavs Jundzis (KDS) met with China's Minister of Foreign Affairs Tang Jiaxuan, who stated that he sees no barriers to expanding cooperation between China and Latvia, according to the Ministry of Defense press center. The agenda for the talks included international security and bilateral cooperation issues. Jiaxuan expressed support for Latvia's foreign policy, which is directed toward integration with the European Union (EU) and the maintenance of good neighborly relations.
Jaixuan stressed that China is ready to develop relations with Latvia on the basis of mutual understanding. Latvia's decision to open an embassy in Peking this fall was hailed as a positive move.
After his meeting with the Foreign Minister, Jundzis placed flowers at the monument to China's national heroes in Peking's central square and continued talks in the afternoon with the commanding officers of China's National Army.
