RIGA - In another first for Riga International Airport, the inaugural flight of a Japan Airlines charter is set to hit the runway on August 4, reports news agency LETA.
The flight will arrive at 15:30 in Riga from Japan, carrying 350 tourists and leading representatives from the Japan tourism industry.
A water christening ceremony will commemorate the event, with guests welcomed according to Latvian traditional greetings.
The 17:00 press conference, to be held in the conference hall at the 'VIP Center' of the airport, will be attended by Japan Tourism Agency Commissioner Yoshiaki Hompo, the Ambassador of Japan to Latvia Tokashi Osanai and Japan Association of Travel Agents Akira Kanai.
Latvia will be represented by the Riga Airport board chairman Krisjanis Peters, Deputy Mayor of Riga Ainars Slesers, and Economy Minister Artis Kampars.
The visit of the Japanese tourists to the Baltic states is being arranged by Japan's leading tour operator 'JTB World Vacations' and the carrier 'Japan Airlines.
The group will be visiting the Baltic countries for eight days.
