"Zack and Miri Make a Porno" is comedy, featuring a peculiar mix of dirty jokes and sweet friendship-turned-love romance.
The film starts by showing Zack and Miri, lifelong platonic friends, struggling to pay their rent and other bills and sharing a shabby apartment in Pittsburgh. Miri plans to pick up her high-school crush at reunion party, while Zack hates to go, painfully realizing they are a failure.
The reunion party turns out to be a blast for both of them 's Miri finds out the harsh truth and Zack gets a business idea that might get their water and electricity back. Sitting near the fireplace in the living room, the two friends scheme a plan on shooting a porno film, in which they will have to be actors. Only for the money, of course.
Disasters await as the film develops and other hilarious characters are chosen as the actors, but this time Zack is not willing to give up 's a new movie director and a brave entrepreneur is born. Things get complicated only when both friends realize their "fucking for money" is not really working the way it should be, and there might be deeper issues involved.
This is essentially a verbal rather than action film, where most of the jokes are in the dialogues. The language is crude and dirty, although it gets sweet and gentle at times. The film is funny, sweet and sexy 's even though the jokes might contain a little bit too much information (some people might find them nasty). The plot is really predictable and there hardly are any surprises for viewers.
This film is not a "porno" itself, it is a romantic comedy about amateur porno actors, so don't expect to see extra dirtiness. Language is as dirty as it gets, but the sex scenes are not. In fact, the sexiest scene is probably the romantic love making of the main actors, and not the variety of "hardcore" scenes.
The main idea of the film is that ordinary, poor people can be fun and smart too, and that love can be found anywhere. Porno actors fight and love "just like real people" and love is what sets them free, eventually.
