RIGA- The Riga Regional Court has ordered 40,000 lats (57,000 euro) to be paid to the widow of a forces troop who died as a result of a parachuting exercise in 2006.
The court has awarded 20,000 lats to be paid to the widow and 20,000 to her son.

The court has ordered the Latvian Defense Ministry to pay the widow as the activities were unlawful and all safety measures were not implemented during the exercise, resulting in the troopers death.

On May 15, 2006 two paratroopers of the reactionary forces Martins Arajs and Normunds Stradins died during the exercise in Spilve airport. The accident happened as five paratroopers were blown by a wind in the direction of the Daugava River.
