RIGA-Latvian Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis has proposed a strategy for restructuring the government by reducing the current amount of ministries to twelve. As a matter of fairness, each ruling coalition party would lose one minister.

Godmanis told reporters that the strategy included merging the Welfare Ministry, Health Ministry, Children, Family Affairs Ministry and the Social Integration Ministry into one Ministry of Family, Health Care and Social Affairs.
