VILNIUS- Two Latvian citizens have been detained in the northeastern Lithuanian city of Rokiskis for smuggling 51,000 litas (14,800 euro) worth of illegal cigarettes.
The detained traffickers were carrying 25 boxes of contraband cigarettes worth some 51,000 litas, the Lithuanian Customs Department said in a statement to the press.
At around 13:00 on Feb. 9, customs officers pulled over a KIA automobile with a German license registration. The vehicle had tinted windows and was dirty; leading the officials to believe the two had been traveling on dirt roads.
Both the driver and passenger are Latvian citizens. The trunk and inside of the car was filled with black plastic bags containing LM brand cigarettes from Russia.
All possessions have been confiscated and the two Latvians have been detained in Lithuania.
