Usackas eager to deisolate Baltics

VILNIUS- Lithuanian Foreign Minister Vygaudas Usackas is eager for implementation ofthe EU's strategy for the Baltic Sea region.He voiced his opinion during the February 5 conference in Germany for discussingthe future of the region's economic strategies.

 "The purpose of this strategy and thetask that joins all the countries of the Baltic Searegion is to release the region's potential and to create a dynamic region,which is open for innovations and has a guaranteed economy growth and acompetitive business environment. This would help to find a common answer toimportant issues for everyone, such as the environment," said Usackas.

Usackas said that he hoped the strategy would lead to reducing the feelingof isolation in the Baltics and that more energy and transport links would bedeveloped.

The Foreign Minister also encouraged EU member states to support theEuropean Commision's idea to allot 175 million euro for an electric energycable to connect Sweden withLithuania or Latvia.
