Latvian PM survives no confidence vote

Latvia'sSaeima has overturned the vote of no confidence for Prime Minister IvarsGodmanis (Latvia's First Party/Latvia's Way) after five hours of discussion. The final result was 40 membersagainst and 51 for.

 

Parties voting for the vote of no confidence were New Era,Civic Union and Harmony party. Parties voting against were the current ruling coalitionwith coalition parliamentarian Oskars Kastens abstaining.


The extraordinary session of Saeima was organized at the request of 34 parliament members.
