Over 1,000 Estonians lose jobs

TALLINN- More than a thousand public servants and other employees lost jobsfrom Estonian public institutionsin 2008.

According to statistics from the Finance Ministry, the number of posts inministries and in their subordinate institutions decreased by slightly morethan 7 percent, with a total of 1,084 people laid off.

According to data from the ministries head offices, layoffs were the biggestin the Finance Ministry, the Environment Ministry, the State Chancellery andthe Foreign Ministry.
