Over 1,000 Estonians lose jobs

TALLINN- More than a thousand public servants and other employees lost jobs from Estonian public institutions in 2008.

According to statistics from the Finance Ministry, the number of posts in ministries and in their subordinate institutions decreased by slightly more than 7 percent, with a total of 1,084 people laid off.

According to data from the ministries head offices, layoffs were the biggest in the Finance Ministry, the Environment Ministry, the State Chancellery and the Foreign Ministry.
