TALLINN- In a yearly effort to combat the ever present darkness, Tallinn residents gear upfor their Festival of Lights. Event organizers have planned hikes in theoutdoors, and are strewing colored lights and bottle lamps on the bus station.

Though the event runs from late December to the end ofJauary, the two last weeks of January are the most festive. Residents may havealready noticed the sculptures lighting up Tallinn'sOldTown.

A fire and ice light show commemorating the Chinese New Yearwill take place  in Kadriorg park on Jan.24.
