Latvia becomes NATO contact point in Georgia

RIGA- NATO has approved its list of Contact Point Embassies (CPEs) in partner states and has given Latvia the duties of NATO CPE in Georgia from Jan. 1 2009 to Dec. 31 2010.

The main duty of a CPE is the distribution of information on the policy and objectives of the Alliance among NATO partner states and the involvement promoting closer mutual contacts and strengthening relations.

The network of NATO CPEs was established in the early 1990s in order to sustain several of the Alliance's partnership formats. Since joining NATO, Latvia has served as a CPE in Sweden from Sept. 2004 to Dec. 2006 and in Finland from Jan. 2007 to Dec. 2008.
