Steady growth for timber

TALLINN (ETA) – The timber industry has seen the fastest growth in the Estonian industrial sector since 1994, while the food industry has suffered the greatest fall.
An Economy Ministry survey on changes of structure of Estonian industry in the past five years indicates that in the first five months of 1994, the forestry and timber industry made up 8.3 percent of all Estonian industry. This year the figure was 14 percent.The food industry, on the other hand, formed 35.8 percent of all industry five years ago while this year its' share is 28.7 percent.
The share of mining, chemical industry and construction materials industry in the whole state's industry has also fallen in comparison to 1994 while the share of machinery and equipment industry, clothing industry and energetics have grown.
The rest of the industrial branches have retained more or less the same share as five years ago.
