Latvia-Georgia co-op agreement takes effect

RIGA - A Latvian Georgian cooperation agreement that was signed six years ago has finally come into effect, Latvian official newspaper Latvijas Vestnesis (LatvianHerald) said.

The agreement provides for exchange of information on defense and securitypolicy, democratic control of the armed forces, as well as cooperation intraining military and civil personnel. Latvia and Georgia will alsocooperate on the issues of peacekeeping and humanitarian operations aswell as other areas.

It is planned to establish a workgroup, which will develop cooperationplans and organize visits, conference and other events of differentlevels.

The agreement also provides for information protection conditions.
