Latvia-Georgia co-op agreement takes effect

RIGA - A Latvian Georgian cooperation agreement that was signed six years ago has finally come into effect, Latvian official newspaper Latvijas Vestnesis (Latvian Herald) said.

The agreement provides for exchange of information on defense and security policy, democratic control of the armed forces, as well as cooperation in training military and civil personnel. Latvia and Georgia will also cooperate on the issues of peacekeeping and humanitarian operations as well as other areas.

It is planned to establish a workgroup, which will develop cooperation plans and organize visits, conference and other events of different levels.

The agreement also provides for information protection conditions.
