Kidnap plotters charged

TALLINN - The Estonian Public Prosecutor's Office has charged three young men with orchestrating a plot to kidnap the daughter of the owner of Olympic Casino. 

Viljar Kangus, 22, Ardo Tammissaar, 22, and Rauno Kaur, 19, are accused of organizing an attempt to kidnap Ines Karu, daughter of Olympic Casino Owner Armin Karu.

The three men had allegedly planned to demand a 15 million euro ransom for the girl. They face up to 12 years in jail if convicted.

The police were in control of the situation at all stages and the businessman and his family never came into real danger, police representatives said.

Ines Karu, who is 23 according to her personal Web site, is a social celebrity who has frequently appeared on entertainment shows on the TV and has gathered fame as a belly dancer.
