Opposition calls for new political system

VILNIUS - The Lithuanian Front Party has called on the country to consider dividing the parliament into upper and lower chambers.

The party, which split from the Social Democrats earlier this year, saidin a press release that the upper chamber - the Senate - should monitor the quality of the laws adopted by the lower chamber - the Seimas. 

The press release also called for a reduction of the total number of parliamentarians from 141 in the current unicameral system to a total of 121 's including 36 in the upper chamber and 85 in the lower.

The party also suggested that the Constitution allow the population to dismiss the Seimas. Currently, the procedure can only be performed by the president or Parliament itself.
