Nordic, Baltic prime ministers to meet in Parnu

TALLINN (BNS) - The prime ministers of the Nordic and Baltic countries will meet Aug. 28 in Parnu, Estonia, to discuss issues pertaining to enlargement of the European Union and regional cooperation.

Taking part in the meeting will be the prime ministers' Poul Nyrup of Denmark, Mart Laar of Estonia, Paavo Lipponen of Finland, David Oddson of Iceland, Andris Berzins of Latvia, Andrius Kubilius of Lithuania, Jens Stoltenberg of Norway and Goran Persson of Sweden, a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry said.

The prime ministers will discuss enlargement of the European Union and exchange ideas about regional cooperation, above all in the information technology sphere.

After the meeting, the eight prime ministers will give a joint press conference in the Villa Ammende in Parnu at 4 p.m.

Regular 5+3 meetings of the Nordic and Baltic prime ministers have taken place since 1996. The last such meeting was on Nov. 8 in Stockholm.
