Poll supports government stance

VILNIUS -- The majority of Lithuania's inhabitants (78%) approve the position ofLithuanian Government that the issue of reliable energy supply should beconsidered in the European Union's negotiations with Russia, according to a Lithuanian Ministry ofForeign Affairs press release.

The trends were detected by a national opinion poll about Lithuanian foreignpolicy initiatives conducted in May-June at the initiative of the of the ministry. 

A similar proportion of Lithuania's inhabitants (72%) agree withLithuania's position that the issue of Russia's obligation to cooperate withthe EU in criminal cases, including the  events of 13th January, 1991 inVilnius, and the Medininkai massacre of 31st July, 1991 should be debated in the EuropeanUnion's negotiations with Russia.

The majority of inhabitants (64%) think that the issue of compensationfor damages to the people deported from occupied Baltic States should be alsodiscussed  in the EU's negotiations with Russia.
