RIGA - Latvian candy company Laima resumed the production of chocolates after a short break on Tuesday, the company's public relations consultant Ingars Rudzitis told the Baltic News Service.
The Laima representative dismissed reports by Latvia's
Neatkariga Rita Avize daily claiming that the candy maker suspended chocolate
production because its storage facilities were full of costly products that the
company was struggling to sell.
Rudzitis said the company had suspended the production of chocolates for only one day to carry out maintenance works, but by now production has resumed already.
The public relations consultant pointed out that chocolate production had a
seasonal character and that there were periods when demand for chocolates was
lower.
Laima routinely suspends chocolate production for a month each summer when its employees are on vacation, so the stoppage was nothing extraordinary, the Laima representative said, adding that the company's first-quarter results showed that demand for the company's products had only grown.
