RIGA- The workload of the Latvian Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) is getting so heavy that the agency is planning to expand.
Bureau chief Aleksejs Loskutovs told Baltic News Service that the bureau's investigators and other employees are struggling to cope with their numerous duties, mostly investigating possible conflicts of interests.
"It will take several years of work to ensure that as soon as people become officials they realize that they are subjected to special rules and special restrictions," Loskutovs said.
There are already at least ten vacancies at KNAB, but these days it is difficult to find real professionals that would be competent enough and meet all the requirements to receive access to classified information, Loskutovs admitted.
At present there are about 150 employees working at the anti-corruption bureau.
