RIGA- The workload of the Latvian Corruption Prevention and CombatingBureau (KNAB) is getting so heavy that the agency is planning to expand.
Bureau chief Aleksejs Loskutovs told BalticNews Service that the bureau's investigators and other employees arestruggling to cope with their numerous duties, mostly investigating possibleconflicts of interests.
"It will take several years of work to ensure that as soon as peoplebecome officials they realize that they are subjected to special rules andspecial restrictions," Loskutovs said.
There are already at least ten vacancies at KNAB, but these days it isdifficult to find real professionals that would be competent enough and meetall the requirements to receive access to classified information, Loskutovsadmitted.
At present there are about 150 employees working at the anti-corruptionbureau.
