RIGA - The number of people stopped by police for speedingand drunk driving is still increasing, despite attempts to improve Latviandrivers' notoriously dangerous behavior.
According to the statistics of the Road Police, in January-February thisyear 8,329 drivers have been detained for speeding, up 1,200 on the same periodlast year.
Police has detained a total of 24,094 drivers for various offences in thefirst two months of the year, up 3,879 on last year.
In the first two months of this year 1,309 people were detained for drivingunder the influence of alcohol as compared to 1,289 drivers detained for thesame offence last year.
Worst of all, 591 drivers were detained behind the wheel even though theyhad previously been banned from driving.
